The Kagadi deputyResident District Commissioner (RDC), Francis Behangana has issued a stern warning to the community development officers, parish chiefs and Parish Development Model (PDM) Chairpersons against extorting funds from PDM beneficiaries.
The warning was delivered during a radio talk-show hosted on Paradigm FM on Thursday evening.
Behangana revealed that his office has received multiple reports of SACCO leaders extorting money from beneficiaries under the guise of covering registration expenses and other SACCO-related expenses.
He emphasized that these expenses are already being catered for by the government, and any form of extortion hinders the successful rollout of the PDM project.
In the recent incidents, Behangana has been ordering the arrest of SACCO chairpersons who had been accused of soliciting money from beneficiaries to ensure transparency in the presidential initiative of social economic transformation.
He urges PDM beneficiaries facing extortion challenges to report their grievances to the appropriate authorities.
Behangana emphasizes the importance of standing up against exploitation, especially among the vulnerable.
